Friday, Jan. 22

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we made houses out of base ten blocks. We had to say how much each house was worth.

  • In Literacy, we continued with questioning. We learned about quick questions and deep questions. An example of a deep question are ones that start with why, I wonder, how etc.
  • For computers, we practiced our math facts to 20 using pixel art.

Reminders:

IMPORTANT: Traffic Concerns (Both Walking and Driving)

Hello Northern Lights Families,

We REALLY need everyone's help!  Both in the morning AND at afternoon dismissal, there is a lot of traffic and there are a few little things that we all can do to help everything run more smoothly and safely.

We are asking that:

-vehicles do not stop in the bus zone out front of the school.  This is not a drop off or pick up zone for other vehicles.  Parents need to use the Hug & Go or park along the street outside of the bus zone.

-children do not run through the Hug & Go...they need to walk on the sidewalk please.

-drivers do not double park in the Hug & Go or have your children jump out in the road in the Hug & Go.  All vehicles need to pull up to a spot with a curb and then have children get out on the curb / sidewalk side (not the traffic side).

-families that have dropped off children in the Hug & Go make their way out of the Hug & Go right away.  Please do not park in the Hug & Go to watch your child from the car.  If you prefer to watch your child on the playground until the bell, please park on the street and walk in. If you prefer to pick your child up on the playground, please park on the street and walk in.  (We ask that all walkers follow the map arrows below to help ease traffic back up both in and out of the Hug & Go.)

-all walkers follow the blue and green arrows on the map below to approach the school or leave the school.  Please avoid walking on the sidewalk or parking lot entrance/exit marked in red. By following the arrows instead of walking where it is red, it is not only safer (especially with slippery weather coming) but also greatly helps with the traffic flow.

-vehicles do not u-turn in the crosswalk.

We know that many of these requests may feel inconvenient and may take an few extra minutes out of your day, so we thank you very much for your cooperation and care.

If we can work as a group to follow the requests, it will be greatly appreciated by all and will help ensure the safety of our school community!

Literacy Week

Next week we will be celebrating Literacy week. Below you will find a Reading Bingo that we are encouraging students and families to participate in. Try and see if you can get a blackout!

  • Next week, we are going to be doing a Science project where we will need some small metal hot wheels cars. If your child has one or two that they could bring in on Monday that would be great!
